Jar Full of Joy

It’s so easy for people to get caught up in the negative and the political turmoil that we constantly hear about and face. It is so easy to focus on the things that are going wrong in our lives instead of focusing on the positives. It is even said that bad news travels 10 times faster than good news. Why is this? Is it really true that “misery loves company”? I certainly hope not, but I do know that it easy to get caught up in the game of “I have it worse than you.” People seem to listen and pay attention when others are telling their tales of woe.

However, shouldn’t we be giving one another the same level of attention when we are telling our tales of joy? And I don’t just mean those stories that are above and beyond the joys of every day such as engagements and having a baby. But I also mean the every day things that we should celebrate: dinner with friends, learning a new game, reconnecting with someone, sharing coffee, finding a new candle we love, really anything that brings us joy. So when I saw this post on Facebook earlier last week (posted by the Yoga studio I’ve started going to), I wanted to embrace it.

I thought this is a great way to help us stay focused on the positives that happen in our lives, instead of allowing ourselves to get pulled down by the negatives around us.

I have already started my jar for the year. Will you join me in finding joy in every day?

  1. I agree. We tend to spend so much time on the outside world that we forget to look inside. Finding the positive in each day is a great way of recognizing our blessings, big or small. In my journal each day, I write a gratitude, intention, and 3 things I did that day that I enjoyed or appreciated. Take care.
